Following questions being raised by the public as to why  senator representing the Kaduna Central Senatorial zone should declare his assets and make it public, Senator Shehu Sani has come out to say his intention is to make public officials who have something to hide to come out and wash their linen before the public.

Addressing online journalists who paid him a courtesy call at his Kaduna residence on Sunday, Senator Sani said ‎”Nigerians deserve to know the level of neatness of
the anus of their public officials.‎”

According to him, “‎the public declaration of ‎assets by President Mohammadu Buhari and Vice President Yemi ‎Osibanjo was a challenge to all men of conscience.‎ They now put all ‎public officials in the duck.

“As far as am concern the war against
corruption should begin by leaders setting a personal example.‎ Who ever refuses to declare his asset is not fit to speak on ‎issues of public accountability, credibility or on corruption.‎

“It is not enough for public office holders to ‎claim to want to sanitise the society without themselves coming open and
clean before the public. We should wash our undies in the public for
people to see how neat we are or how dirty we are.‎

‎”People would want to ‎flaunt their CVs showing where they attended primary school and ‎secondary schools, and how much they have served the country and how
many first class they have gotten, from their first degree, second ‎degree and third degree but why are people scared of disclosing the
number of houses they and the amount of money they have in their ‎accounts?‎

“We have seen people when they win elections they tell you
that they have being billionaires in their mothers’ womb. Or they were
accomplished business men.‎”

‎He noted that though
‎Public declaration does not make one a saint but avails the
public the knowledge of degree of sin being committed by their leaders, adding that “it also avails the public ‎knowledge on your degree of uprightness. ‎The public will be able to
know what you have.”

“Over ‎the last sixteen years, politicians have a ritual, after winning ‎election they make claims of hundreds of Houses and billions of naira.
That is simply an anticipatory looting.

‎”What has happen in the last 16years is that many public office holders
have looted the funds from our oil wells and have enrich themselves ‎and their families and have impoverished our people and have destroyed ‎the present and the future of our young people so it is necessary that
our people should be inform on the level which people have enriched ‎themselves while in public office.‎”

‎The Comrade Senator expressed fears that because of public declaration by the president his vice and him (Sani), there could be rush by public office holders to go and change ‎or alter or temper with the documents of what they have presented ‎before the Code of Conduct Bureau simply to wave off the moral burden ‎on them.‎

“There is the need to also protect what people have declared, if care
is not taken there will be an attempt to change or alter or even feel ‎new forms and back date it for the purpose of making a falsified‎ public declaration‎.” He said. ‎
