More troubles for Kaduna Electric: N2m transformer scandal: Kaduna Disco to forfeit assets in terror – NERC

The kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) would not get a return on the asset in its torrid for failing to produce a 500kva electricity transformer to the Southern Kaduna community which contributed N2million to the company six months ago.

The verdict was conveyed to the Distribution Company by the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) after it intervened.

The intervention of NERC has resolved brewing crises in the KAEDCO coverage area as it was sequel to protests by youths of two or more communities in the North and South Kaduna.

Badarawa community had contributed N2million to purchase a transformer and was awaiting connection to Kaduna Disco network.

It was reported that Minister of Works, Power and Housing, Babatunde Fashola had in a recent pronouncement ordered an investigation by the NERC in the alleged exchanged of money following a protest letter by a youth of the community to him.

Subsequently the acting Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Anthony Akah, despatched an investigation team to Kaduna for on the sport assessment and resolution of the complaint. The team discovered that the community actually donated the transformer to KAEDCO to facilitate the restoration of power to their area which had been in darkness doe the past six months.

Similarly, Janruwa community at a meeting organized by the Commission in Kaduna revealed that the youths of the locality protested what they regarded as an extensive darkness as they have been out of supply for over a year.

In a related development, Anguwan Baro community in Chikun LGA, have been protesting non return of their transformer taken away by the staff of Kaduna Electric for repair.

Youths in the area have been distorting the fragile peace the State is currently enjoying over non-challant attitude of the company over their plight in addition to estimated Billings.
