2019 Heineken Golf Tourney:  Wakili Emerges Overall Winner

Sani Wakili from Wuyep Lakeside Golf Club, after playing 70 Gross has emerged winner of the Nigerian Breweries (NB) Plc Heineken 2019 Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) Golf Club Tournament held on Saturday September 28, 2019.

Runner up Nett was claimed by Sergeant Philip Husseini of Zaria’s club, with 65 Nett, while the Best Nett was clinched by Jos Club’s Abdulrahman Iliya with 63 Nett.

In the Ladies Category, Best Gross was won by Vera David with 89 Gross from Zaria Golf Club.
Winner Runner Up Nett went to Lucy Monday from Zaria Golf Club, while Best Nett with 71 Nett went to Elizabeth Samuel from Jaji Golf Club.

In the Veterans Category, Second runner up Nett went to Chief Udoh from Kaduna Golf Club with 69 Nett, Runner Up Nett went to Adamu Yusuf, Zaria Golf Club, while Best Nett went to Yabuat I with 68 Nett from Kaduna Golf Club.

Category three second runner up Nett Israel Adegoke from Zaria Golf Club with 71 Nett, runner up Nett, Suleiman Abdulkadir, Zaria Golf Club and Best Nett Ahmed Bawa KGC 73 Nett.

Category Two second runner up Nett went to 70 Nett, Colonel Nicholas Ashinze from Jaji Golf Club, runner up 68 Nett, Honourable Husseini from Zaria Golf Club, Best Nett went to Gabriel Afolabi 67 Nett
from Jaji Golf Club.

In the special categories, Nearest to the pin on hole number three was won by Salisu Idris from NDA Golf Club.

Longest drive on hole 10 Ladies Category went to Justina Gideon of Jos Club, while the male category went to Jaji’s Saturday Otubo.

Speaking at the event, the Brewery Manager, Mr. Abbey Ajayi, who was ably represented by the Public Affairs Manager, Northern Nigeria, Mr. Danjuma John-Ekele said “we have been partnering this great citadel of Military learning thru its active golf Club for over 20years. This event is coming at the time our company is in its 54th year operating from Kaduna. This is a perfect match for us.”

“As a company, we are driven by a philosophy of Winning with Nigeria. And for the past 54 years through strategic partnerships like this event we are celebrating today, it shows the special importance we give to such relationship” he stressed.

Ajayi maintained that “in Winning with Nigeria, We have intervened in improving the educational landscape through building classrooms & providing furniture, libraries & books, toilets, boreholes in schools across the country (and specifically in Kaduna, Kano, Katsina, Sokoto)and we are having our fourth edition of the Maltina Teacher of the Year event this October”.

“We are currently building and renovating 7 boreholes across our immediate operating communities in Kaduna.

“Also to cap this, we are building a new Emergency ward at the Gwamna Awan General Hospital
in Kakuri.

“What we are witnessing today, is the result of that partnership that we have enjoyed with the Armed
Forces of this great country over the years, we have once again shown our commitment through our sports sponsorship”, Ajayi revealed.

Responding, the Commandant Nigerian Defence Academy, Major General A. Oyebade, represented by Director Administration, Commodore J.E Ake, commended Nigerian Breweries Plc for the support for Golf and the cordial relationship with the Nigerian Military stressing that NB Plc’s support for years continues to boost the moral of officers and men of Nigerian Defence Academy and the entire military.
