The Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Sadiq Baba Abubakar yesterday confirmed that the Nigerian Airforce is faced with challenges being reported in some quarters ‎but expressed confidence that they are surmountable. 

The Chief of Air Staff made the assertion while speaking to journalists during his maiden working visit tour of Nigerian Airforce Base in Kaduna .

He said “I agree with you that there are some challenges, but with the help of the federal government ‎they are going to get sorted out.”

“We are going to look inwards, we have the research development centre and we have partnership or MoU with fifteen Nigerian universities and we have highly qualified professors in these universities that we can partner with to deal with some of our problems while relying on what ever support we get from the outside”

“But our emphasis is first to look inwards to know what we have and what we can get and I can tell you that haven’t been in charge of research and development at one stage of my career I know we have very patriotic and qualified Nigerians in our universities that have been assisting in the past and am trying to get them back again so that we partner together to address some of our problems. He said.

According to the Air Chief, “We are re-accessing what we have done so far, what do we need to do additionally?  in order to make NAF more effective in dealing with the problems in the North-east”.

‎He said the Airforce is working round the clock to ensure that it build the capacity of its personnel in order to be able to deal with the challenges that the nation is faced with. Adding that the idea of his visit is to meet with officers and men and to look at what they have been doing to identify areas of improvements.

“We recognise that no system is perfect ‎so we are restrategising ‎and part of it is to build the capacity of our personnel so that they are able to handle the maintenance of our airplane and issues that have to do with the sensibility of airplane”.

“Training Command in Kaduna is where we train our pilots to go and fight so we must make sure that the training is going on well, there are no difficulties, so that the pilots that are going to be trained here are going to get the required training to face the challenges. He added.
