Ahead of World Children’s Day (WCD), the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), has urged media organizations in Nigeria to #GoBlue in commemoration of the day in honour of children.

World Children’s Day (WCD) is the anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child which is commemorated every 20th November, globally.

UNICEF Nigeria, in a letter made available to media organizations, signed by Geoffrey Njoku, Media and External Relation Officer, explained that, “as part of the World Children’s Day commemoration, we call on all Nigerians to go blue for children.

“We seek your collaboration to provide platforms for children to commemorate this year’s World Children’s Day by involving them in your programmes and news. We intend to #GoBlue in Nigeria, as the rest of the world would be doing on this day.

“Going blue will include a touch of blue in your news studios, newscasters and children participating in your programmes and news operations wear blue as well. It could include having a touch of blue in your publications, mast heads, webpages, blogposts etc.”

The letter added that, UNICEF will also present a petition for global signing by millions of people, which will be active for one year, saying, “the visual signatures will be handed over to world leaders at the UN on 20 November 2019 at the 30th Anniversary of the Convention on the Rights of the Child – calling for recommitments and new, stronger commitments to child rights.”

“We should think children and include them in all we do on that day. Let us all together raise the bar for children’s rights on November 20.” The letter added.
