We’ve Spends Over N11 billion to Fight Insurgency-Yobe Speaker

Speaker Yobe State House of Assembly, Rt honourable Adamu Dalla-Dogo said Yobe state Government has spend over N11 Billion in the fight against insurgency since its inception in 2011 which has drained the state resources, hence the Federal Government should come to the assistant of the state.

The speaker who said this after a two-day retreat organised by the state government in conjunction with UK Department For International Development (DFID) for Yobe State Executive, legislature and senior government functionaries in the state.

He said, “well the issues of IDPs and Children below the age of five, this thing I will say we need help from the Federal Government to assist us, because it has greatly let us back in Yobe state. With the starting of insurgency, we in Yobe we have spent about N11 billion t purchase wares and other things for the Army.

Dogo who said the state has overcome the insurgency and peace has returned to the state with the internally Displaced Persons who had earlier flooded the state capital Damaturu have started returning to their various local governments.

“We have passed the period of serious insurgency from 2011 to 2015 and we thank God that now peace is coming to Yobe state and north-east in general and by the grace of God there is no insurgency now in our state, any local government you can go at anytime even at night or day time, so we thank God that peace has returned to our state.

He described the retreat as a right step in the right direction particularly at this time that the nation’s economy is facing a major challenges.

“What this Retreat is teaching us is how to use the minimum resources that we have t provide dividends of democracy to our people and also to train our people not to depend on the federal allocation, but to encourage us to develop our resources to boast Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) in Yobe state.

He gave assurance that the lessons learnt would be implemented to the latter in the grassroots stressing that Yobe state being a state off farmers, they would mobilise the people of Yobe State in the Grassroots to go back to farm and ensure the state is self-sufficient in terms of food production by ensuring government assistant get to the farmers.

On his parts, Secretary to the Government of Yobe state described the retreat a successful one, which would be beneficiary to the people of Yobe State.

He described the state governor Ibrahim Gaidam as a pragmatic leader who was able to pilot the state despite the challenges of insurgency.

“Inspite of all these challenges, development programme did not stop in Yobe state, health issues were addressed, education is been. Rebuild, roads constructions were carried out. In fact during this period, up to 600 kilometres roads were build.

The SSG also called for assistance of the Federal Government while stressing that, the rebuilding of the damage done by the insurgency to be beyond the state government, he added that a cost document developed revealed that over N15 billion is required and therefore is beyond the capacity of the state government.
