SURE-P: Governor Yero distributes 25 buses for students’ transportation

Kaduna State Government yesterday distributed 25 units of 14 seater capacity buses to convey students from their homes to school at subsidized rate in order to cushion the suffering of students mobility in the state.

 
Flagging-off the distribution at Sir Kashim Ibrahim house, Governor Mukhtar Ramalan Yero, told the gathering that the state government used the sum of N149m, which was proceed from buses, tricycles and taxes distributed under the 2012 and 2013 SURE-P.

Speaking further Governor Yero said, the distribution of the buses was one of several efforts been put in place by his administration to improve the standard of education of the state to acceptable and competitive standards.

He added that  “I want to tell the people here that we have not add a penny to the money we used to buy these 25 buses. It was the proceeds we realized from tricycles, buses, taxes that were distributed to our people from SURE-P money in 2012 and 2013. We will continue until all the money is paid back by the beneficiaries.

“We will continue to provide our people with developmental projects especially, those that can increase the economy of the state at geometric rate.

Speaking earlier, the state Commissioner for education, Mallam Ibrahim Ali, described the gesture as timely, adding that transportation was one of the challenges facing the education sector of the state.

The commissioner said, it was a well-established fact that the governor has done a lot in developing the education of the state, “You are one of the three governors who have paid for external examinations of students of the state.”

on his part, President, National Association of Kaduna State Students (NAKASS), whose association also got one of the buses, thanked the governor and promised that the students in the state would rally round the governor to ensure he returned to Sir Kashim Ibrahim come February 28.

Other beneficiaries include Women wing of Christian Association of Nigeria (WOWICAN), Ranchers Bees football club and Izala Islamic sects.
