Sports Minister Lauds Scrabble Federation Over Elevation To Grade A Sport

The Minister of Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Sunday Dare has hailed the Nigerian World Scrabble Champion for making the country proud and described the victory as no mean feat that can only be achieved through hard work and dedication .

The Minister made this remark in his office today when he played host to the scrabble team that came to present their trophy as the World Scrabble Champions and the best Scrabble playing Nation in the world.

In his words he said “You cannot kill the Nigerian Spirit in us, by this victory it shows that whatever we put our mind to do we can do it.

Mr Dare who described scrabble as a mind Game said the championships elevation and their success will be used as a trigger to embrace other mind games and promised the Ministry’s support to that effect.

The Federation which was elevated to Grade A was also listed among the team that will be presented to President Mohammadu Buhari.

Earlier in his remarks, the Permanent Secretary, eulogized the federation for being a three time world champions in the game.

According to him, their success would not have been possible without the support of President Mohammadu Buhari and the good working relationship between the sitting and the past Presidents of the Federation.

Mr. Sulaiman Gora, the President of the Scrabble federation said he is proud of the team which he said has done excellently well, having won the trophy three consecutive times.

Said he; “the team has had a running battle with United Kingdom and other World Scrabble playing nations, but have constantly remained the best in the world.

The President of Nigeria Olympic Committee, Engr. Habu Gumel thanked the Ministry for its incessant support to the Federation and urged the Federation to continue in its feat.
