The national body of the Southern Kaduna peoples Union ( Sokapu) and Southern Kaduna Professionals has said that Governor Nasir El-rufai promised to end the constant killings and wanton distructions of their homes and crops, and to fish out the perpetrators, was just a political statement.
Addressing Journalists during a protest against the persistent attacks on the people of Southern Kaduna, the President of the Sokapu union Bar.Kaptain Solomon Musa said, two days after the governors visit to the affected Communities, a cleric,Pastor Luka Ubangari, of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Ungwan Anjo near Godogodo, was killed by suspected to be armed herdsmen.
“Two days later, the same herdsmen, came to Ningon Community and shot dead Gambo Sule a 38 year old leaving his wife a widow and his five Children Fatherless.Benjamin Auta,35 a Father of two little Children was also kiled. A girl who survived is presently receiving treatment at Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa hospital in Kafanchan.
According to him, it has been estimated that not less than 10,000 Southern Kaduna natives from 24 Villages has been killed since the invasions of Communities started in 2011, In 2014 about 30,000 refugees fleeing killings and arson from Sanga areas alone these natives are yet to return as herdsmen converted their farms lands to grazing grounds under arms.
“Despite the constant attacks on our People, we are yet to hear that one single herdsmen has been arrested and charged with a murder case, adding that, it is our Youths who are putting their lives at stake to protect Communities that are always arrested by the Police and Soldiers and locked up in Kafanchan,”
“Could this law enforcement attitude, and selective arrest be linked with the thinking of Mallam Nasir El-rufai in a tweet that went viral, on the the 15th July 2012 when he tweeted that:” Anyone, Soldier or not that kills the Fulani take a loan repayable one day no matter how long it takes. SOKAPU has no choice to conclude that the governor may have been convinced by the well publicesed statement of Kaduna state.
While commenting on the Meyyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, Dr Haruna Usman response after the Gada Biyu, Akwa’a and Godogodo killings two weeks back, he said,” the Fulanis had carried out the killings and distructions of some of these villagers in retaliation to the killing of a Fulani Chieftain.
“Its has shown lack of interest by the governor in bringing the herdsmen king-pin to prosecution and look like the herdsmen have a natural tendency and right to take the law into their hands and kill anyone and cause havoc on Amy property he suspects of killing his own.
The union further called for the immediate arrest an interrogation of Haruna Usman and be force to produce or identify the Fulanis that are (On vengeance” mission.
“We also demand for the unconditional released of our Youths who were detained unjustly in Kafanchan.
In his part Chairman of the Southern Kaduna Professionals Barrister Mark Jacob maintained that the role of the government in protecting the lives of its people is well define in the constitution.
“We require peace in Southern Kaduna were our own people can harvest their farm produce without any hitches.
“We reject any move plans by the state government to confiscate our ancestral land for grazing reserved, we are predominantly farmers assist us with fertilizer and Jinger company were our people can be gainfully employed and empower not grazing reserve or ranches,” He conclude.”
