Governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kaduna State, Usman Shehu Bawa, popularly known as ABG, has joined other opposition candidates in demanding free, fair and credible elections in 2027.

A statement by his spokesperson, Yusuf Idris, said the candidates, including Isa Ashiru of the All Democratic Congress (ADC), made the demand at a meeting in Kaduna, where they expressed concern over alleged persecution of opposition figures and the shrinking space for political participation under the current administration.

The candidates called for the protection of fundamental rights, political pluralism and a level playing field for all parties, warning against the use of state power to intimidate political opponents or restrict legitimate political activities.

They said the meeting was not about partisan rivalry but a collective commitment to protecting democratic values and ensuring that all political parties could operate without undue interference.

The opposition candidates also pledged to strengthen cooperation among their parties, promote peaceful political engagement and pursue their political ambitions through lawful means.

They urged relevant authorities to guarantee an environment where all parties could organise, campaign and compete freely, insisting that the 2027 elections must reflect the genuine wishes of the people of Kaduna State.
