Police detains man for accusing El Rufai of owning Dubai property
. . . we’re not sure of the development – Police
The family of one Abdullahi Barazana yesterday alleged that Barazana had been picked by the Nigeria Police in Kaduna and was detained and tutored for making statements on a radio station political programme in which he claimed that Governor Nasir El Rufai of Kaduna State had cash and property in Dubai, United Arab Emirate, UAE.
According to the family source, the Police said that the allegation of Barazana was capable of inciting Kaduna populace.
Last week, Dr. John Danfulani, a Political Science Lecturer with Kaduna State University, KASU, and a well known critic of El Rufai’s government, was suspended from KASU, detained by the Police and arraigned in Court for making what the state government claimed was an inciting statements on face book.
Kaduna State Police Spokesman, DSP Zubairu Abubakar, when contacted over the issue, expressed doubt if such development ever took place, but promised to contact police detention facilities in the state and reached back to our reporter, six hours before this report was filed.
According to a family source, Barazana, Tokunbo car dealer with A. U Motors on Ali Akilu road, Kaduna, was invited to a Hausa programme on Freedom Radion called, kowane gauta, anchored by Bababgida Abdullahi.
The programme is popular among Hausa listeners for hosting groups and persons with strong opposing political views and interests.
The source said: “He spoke at the Kaduna Freedom Radio FM last Thursday and he said that President Mohammadu Buhari has done well by going to Dubai to sign an agreement with that government for all Nigeria money that have been stolen to return back to Nigeria. He said he was sure that Buhari was not corrupt but that El Rufai has houses and money in Dubai.
“My brother opened the eyes of people by revealing that the reason why El Rufai travelled to Dubai after Buhari came back, was for El Rufai to go and change the ownership of his property and assets to other names so that he will not be caught.
“Then on Friday, the Police came and arrested him in his shop. At first we did not know where he was taken to, but we later learn that they took him to the SSS and then transferred him to Gabasawa Police Station. They said his talk can cause problem in the state. Today (Sunday) they took him to the Police clinic to treat him of wounds that he has because of the beating he got. They lock him with harden criminals”, he said.
The Police Spokesman, Zubairu said: “I don’t know about this matter. The headquarters here is not meant for detention. So, I am not sure if what you are saying is true. But I will call other DPOs and find out. I will get back to you later”, he said and never did, nor picked his calls afterwards.
Last year, El Rufai dragged the Union Newspaper to court, asking to be paid damages over a story which in which it claimed that El Rufai had declared huge landed property and billions of Naira in his Asset Declaration form with the Code of Conduct Bureau.
