Phone Theft: Kaduna NUJ Expresses Displeasure Over Zango-Kataf LGA Chair’s Reaction

The Kaduna State Council of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) has expressed displeasure over the reaction of the Chairman Zango Kataf Local Government Area, Dr. Elias Manza, to the theft of the handset belonging to one of it’s Exco member at an event organized by the Chairman.

Mr. Jacob Zango, was at the LGA to officially represent the NUJ Council Chairman at an event marking the one year anniversary in office of Zango Kataf Local Government Council Chairman two weeks ago, based on his invitation through the information officer of the council.

Speaking on the development, the NUJ Chairman, Comrade Adamu Yusuf, said such incident happening within the premises of a local government Secretariat, where maximum security of lives and properties is expected was shameful and stand condemned.

According to him, “most worrisome is the fact that when the case was formally reported to the Zango Council Chairman, he wave it as one of those usual occurrences.”

The NUJ Chairman expressed surprise that two week after the incident was reported, the LG Chair did not make any attempt to help find solution to it even when the council appealed to him through it’s Secretary, John Femi Adi.

Comrade Adamu, added that the LG Chairman, Dr. Elias, on responded to the NUJ appeal by saying, what happened can happen anywhere and that the Council has so many commitments as such nothing can be done about the matter.

He therefore made a passionate appeal to the LG Chair to kindly assist the owner as he was there on an official assignment base on the LGA invitation of NUJ Chairman.

Narrating his ordeal, Mr. Jacob said, “immediately after the event ceremony held at the Government Girls Secondary School, Zonkwa, all guests were directed to go to the Council’s Secretariat for entertainment.

“On getting to the Secretariat, i discovered that Chairman’s office was filled up with guests and decided to move to the office of Council’s Secretary who he is a friend and school mate.

“The phone, Techno C8 Android, was stolen after a while on the table of the Council’s secretary.”
