NAS Kaduna Chapter Launches Parent-Targeted Advocacy Drive to Tackle Out-of-School Children Crisis

Ahead of International Literacy Day 2026, the Kaduna State Chapter of the National Association of Seadogs (NAS), Pyrates Confraternity (Aurora Flotilla Deck), has unveiled a targeted campaign aimed at returning out-of-school children to classrooms across the state by engaging their parents directly.
Speaking on the strategic vision of the campaign on Sunday, Igweagu Emmanuel, Deputy Vice-President, Kaduna Chapter of National Association of Seadogs (NAS), stated that the primary barrier to child enrolment often stems from economic pressures and a lack of awareness among parents regarding the long-term value of formal education.
“Our main target is the out-of-school children, but the real key to unlocking their future lies with their parents.
“This advocacy drive is designed to lift the veil over the eyes of parents regarding the critical need for their children to be educated. We are taking welcoming, non-judgmental messages directly into communities to convince parents why their children must return to school and stay there to secure a better tomorrow,” Emmanuel declared.
According to Emmanuel, the initiative aligns with the 60th anniversary of UNESCO’s proclamation of International Literacy Day, incorporating its global focus on people, planet, and prosperity. He emphasized that educating the state’s out-of-school population yields immediate and long-term societal benefits.
“The environment will become significantly better when these children become literate.
“Literate children grow into conscious citizens who build cleaner, safer, and more sustainable communities. Furthermore, prosperity will serve as an added ingredient of literacy in their later life, giving them the functional skills needed for financial independence and lifelong productivity,” Emmanuel noted.
The campaign, slated for execution on September 8, 2026, will deploy door-to-door parental outreach, town hall assemblies in local dialects, and temporary enrolment desks to assist families with school placement in coordination with local education authorities and traditional leaders.
NAS Kaduna Chapter reaffirmed its resolve to monitor retention rates continuously through community-level committees to ensure returned pupils remain in school.
