Kaduna SWAN: Dickson, Adubi Takes Over as Acting Secretary, Treasurer

Assistant Secretary, Jacob Onjewu Dickson has taken over the secretariat of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Kaduna State chapter in acting capacity.

This was the development announced to members at the Emergency Congress Held on Tuesday August 7, 2019 at the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Kaduna Council Secretariat on Tuesday August 6, 2019.

Announcing the decision, Kaduna State SWAN Chairman, Comrade Isaiah Benjamin said the decision was in line with the association’s statute, following the transfer of the elected Secretary, Beni Adams, following his transfer by his employers NTA, to Abuja.

Comrade Benjamin explained that the acting secretary will serve in same capacity for a maximum of three months, if Mr. Adams fails to turn in a resignation or return to Kaduna, before he would be confirmed as substantial secretary.

In a related development, Abdulwaheed Adubi has been nominated and confirmed as the chapter’s Treasurer, following the transfer of Joy Odor also to Abuja, and her subsequent resignation.

Comrade Benjamin announced that even though the statutes empowers him to nominate a replacement which will be ratified by other executives, he gave the congress an opportunity to select the replacement, prompting Amina Anebi to nominate Adubi, an action that was instantly seconded by Veteran sports journalist, Jacob Zango.

Meanwhile, the chairman thanked those members that attended the AITEO Cup finals friendly match which was lost 0-4 to the visiting SWAN.

He regretted that the organisers were not fair to home based and visiting journalists that covered the event, vowing to write formally to express dismay.

“I have spoken with the SWAN President, Honour Sirawoo on the matter who has promised to assist in getting to the root of the matter and a letter would be forwarded,” he assured.

Earlier, Hajia Zainab Tanimu suggested that the issue of unfair treatment to journalists at events in Kaduna is becoming too rampant, suggesting boycott of such events subsequently.

Supporting her position, Veteran journalist, Jacob Zango said that Kaduna SWAN should have written Aiteo immediately to express dissatisfaction.

Adubi in his acceptance, said thanked Kaduna SWAM members for the confidence reposed on him, pro using to serve the association diligently.
