‎A statement signed by the publicity Secretary of the group Murtala Abubakar said, “We have noted that our Governor, Malam Nasir el-Rufai had chosen to appoint Caretaker Committees rather than facilitate the conduct of credible elections in our Local Governments.

“We are convinced that our Party has to uphold the fundamental democratic principle that Nigerian citizens should live only under democratically – elected authorities.

“Appointed officials who exercise power are only answerable to Governors, not the people. Given the reality that hand-picked persons have been given mandates to exercise powers over us for the next six months, we can only appeal to them to rule with the fear of God and the certainty that our people will judge them, irrespective of the compromised nature of their mandates.

“We also advise the Governor to ensure that this is the last time our people will be made to tolerate un-elected persons, when they have constitutionally-given rights to elect their own leaders at Local Government levels.‎”

It would be recalled that only very recently, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) youth group at a press conference equally faulted the governor for not conducting local government elections and instead for the second time appointed an interim management committees (IMC) for the 23 local government areas.‎
According to the statement, “stakeholders in our great party, APC in Kaduna State have kept developments under very close observation, and have resolved to share its conclusions and suggestions with millions of our fellow citizens who are eager to see our Party and governments deliver on their mandates with policies which relieve the current economic difficulties facing particularly the poor.

“We have noted the decision of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of our Party to organize Congresses in States such as Kaduna where vacancies exist in executive positions of the Party at all levels.

“Our party in Kaduna State desperately needs to fill critical vacancies that have rendered it totally impotent in discharging its obligations to our members. We have faith in our leadership at the National level, and we are confident that they recognize the vital roles of effective and representative party structures at all levels, particularly at this movement when we need to complement the efforts of our governments in educating citizens and mobilizing them to support government policies.

“We share the concerns of many well-meaning citizens over the tendency of the Government of Kaduna State to take far-reaching decisions without adequate consultations, with the result that controversies they generate heat up the state and isolate the government.

“Some of these decisions include the plans to regulate religious preaching and introduce key changes with respect to labour unions and government employees.

“Others which cause pain and anguish include failures to pay salaries and pensions for months on end in many instances under the excuse that workers are being verified, and demolition of structures.

“We recognize that many of the decisions of the government have intrinsic value, but the registered contempt for necessary consultation and disregard for public opinion on their impact render them liabilities in terms of good accountable governance.

“We will continue to insist that all our elected leaders must show the requisite levels of respect for the rights of citizens to be consulted, and for policies to reflect such consultations. Our people voted for a government that will change incompetence and corruption into efficiency and accountability.

“They did not vote for leaders who have no respect for them. As we celebrate a year since the historic victory of our Party in all elections, we remind our leaders of the values of humility and respect for the people who voted them into power.”

The group said it recognize the many hardships which the citizens, especially the poor and the vulnerable are going through, stressing that “the foundations of most of ocurrent difficulties were laid by the misgovernance of the PDP, and will require the best efforts of our APC leaders with the support and understanding of citizens to solve.”

Meanwhile, the group commended the steadfast commitment of President Muhammadu Buhari to rid the nation of the cancer of corruption which has destroyed our institutions. We urge all our elected leaders to follow the standards and example set by President Muhammadu Buhari.‎
