‎Jumbo Pay: Impoverishing Legislators  Won’t Solve Economic Woes – Shehu Sani

Senator representing Kaduna central at the National Assembly, Comrade Shehu Sani Has warned that impoverishing the legislators is not the way out of the present economic quagmire, being faced by the nation’s economy.

‎Speaking at an interactive forum with journalists on Monday in Kaduna, Senator Sani said diversifying the economy from oil, reducing salaries across board, stopping stealing of crude oil and bunkering should be part of the measures to be taken to improve the economy.‎

But he however task politicians across board to make sacrifices for the betterment of the people, adding that the sacrifice must include, Politicians, governors, Senators and other legislators.‎

‎Sani said Change can only make meaning if it adds value to the lives of the people,‎ saying “we can’t afford to fail the teeming Nigerians who queued up in the sun to vote APC during the 2015 general elections just for mere personal interest.‎”

On the crisis rocking his party,He said, “APC will soon reconcile its members and that PDP cannot cash in on it to reap any gains”. While commending former President Olusegun Obasanjo for his moves to reconcile the Senate President Bukola Saraki and Senator Ahmed Lawan, Senator Sani expressed hope saying the move is a “good development for the country and success of President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration.”‎
‎Sani empasized that a divided senate will not help President Buhari in any way, he called on all factions and aggrieved APC senators to accept Saraki as the Senate President for peace to reign.

‎Sani, who said he has since disengaged himself from both Lawan and Saraki led groups, urged the senators to “accept the fortunate and unfortunate situation to live in peace.”‎

‎The senator who was at the correspondents chapel office of the Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ) acknowledged their role of the media in the victory of the APC in the last elections. Adding “Even the victory of APC was made possible because the press told the masses to be futuristic and look ahead.”‎

“From my background, together with journalist we have been in the struggle for democracy and freedom. I Want to commit myself and assure you of the willingness of my office to work In the fight ahead, I also appreciate the role you have played.

“The press fought the military to bring about democracy and in the last 16 years it has been fighting for entrenching democracy.” Sani said.‎
