How father allegedly raped underaged daughter – Witness

A Lagos High Court sitting in Ikeja, Lagos, has been told how a commercial bus driver, Mr. Ajayi Gbadegesin, allegedly defiled his under-age daughter.
A prosecution witness, Babatope Damolekun, yesterday narrated before Justice Kudirat Jose that the victim (name withheld), whom he met at the Bello Bus Stop, Iju Lagos confided in him on how the father has been having canal knowledge of her.
In his testimony led by the state counsel, Mr. Babatunde Oguntemowo, the witness said he met the victim around 8a.m. on May 12, 2015, begging for money at Bello Bus Stop, Iju, Lagos.
According to him, “I wondered why a small girl of her age was not in school. I asked her why she was begging and she told me she needed money to go back to her stepmother’s place in Agege.
“The girl (victim) also told me how her father came to pick her from her stepmother’s house in Agege the previous night to his own place in Ajuwon Akute, Lagos. She narrated how her father had slept with her all through the night.

“When I enquired about her father’s whereabouts, she told me his commercial bus was parked a few metres away and his father had gone to get fuel. I called on some people and we approached the man. I pretended to be a policeman and I challenged him. I stopped a tricycle, which took us to the nearest police station.
“I reported the matter at Red House Police Station and the man admitted to the police that he did the act, blaming it on the devil. The police thereafter asked me to pay N7,500 so as to take the girl to the hospital for check-up and treatment, which I did.
“I was later called by the police, who showed me the doctor’s report and drugs they got for the girl. I insisted the case must be taken to court and I have been monitoring the matter since then,” he explained.
Damolekun further told the court that the girl has since been taken to a rehabilitation home in Yaba. The presiding judge adjourned continuation of hearing till October 6, 2016.
