The Kaduna State, Residence Electoral Commissioner (REC), of the Independent Electoral Commission (INEC), on Friday said, the commission is fully ready for the Saturday gubernatorial and state assembly elections in the state.
The REC, Abdullahi Adamu Kaugama, at a joint Press Briefing with heads of security agencies in the state, assured electorates of their readiness for smooth conduct of the election.
He said technical officers has been deployed to be moving around in case of card reader malfunctionality in any of the polling centre.
The REC, noted that nobody will be allowed to vote without the Permanent Voters Card, as that is the only option for a valid vote.
Abdullahi said they have taken correction in the areas they were found lagging during the Presidential and the National Assembly Elections last week, adding that adequate measures has already be taken.
He said INEC has engaged 34,000 Ad-hoc staff for tomorrow’s elections out of which 10,000 of them are NYSC.
“We have 38 Gubernatorial Candidates and 398 candidates from the 34 Constituencies in the state and we have engaged 34,000 competent Ad-hoc staff mainly from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
“We have also discovered the problems of Card Reader during the Presidential and National Assembly elections last two weeks. So we have deployed 8,012 Card Readers. All voters must be captured by Card Reader. No Card Reader, no elections. He added.
On his part, the State Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Abdulrahman, assured the people of safety as the command along with the Airforce has secured an approval to use aerial manned vehicles for surveillance during the electionary period.
He therefore, called on the people to cooperate with security agencies in getting rid of thuggery and violence.
