Gov. Masari, Lauds Nigeria Brewery for its Intervention on Education in Northern Nigeria
Katsina State Governor Rt.Hon. Aminu Bello Masari has applauded Nigerian Breweries Plc for its intervention on education in Northern Nigeria, even as he challenges corporate organizations operating in the region to emulate the corporate social responsibility of the company, which according to him is resuscitating the lost glory of Education in the region.
Governor Masari, who was represented by the Honorable Commissioner for Education Professor Salamatu Sa’adiyya Idris at the official Commissioning of the two blocks of six classrooms constructed by Maltina for Government Day Secondary School Kofar Yandaka said, “The construction of two blocks of six classrooms, a library and six number cubicle toilets by Maltina Company Plc. is a gesture worthy of commendation and noble cause worthy of emulation, most especially by other corporate organizations and wealthy individuals in the State. The project will indeed help in decongesting our classes and assist tremendously in boosting the education of our younger ones in the State”.
He maintained that Education Sector in the State has continue to receive the desired attention from the present Government as Government has accorded the sector highest priority in the last year’s budget, and now in the proposed 2017 budget still Education gets the largest share. “We must, therefore commend the effort of His Excellency Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari for his foresight and astute leadership qualities in steering the affairs of the State to prosperity”
According to him, “I sincerely register our profound appreciation on behalf of His Excellency Rt. Hon. Aminu Bello Masari CFR, (Dallatun Katsina) Government and good people of Katsina State for this gigantic project executed in this School. I want to assure you that, this Government will continue to partner with Maltina Company to support Education in Katsina State”
Also speaking, the Managing Director of Nigerian Breweries Plc. Mr. Nicolaas Vervelde said “We are proud to be a veritable partner to Katsina State. We see the state as Special to us – supporting us towards our business success. Our dear company turned 70 years last month and we see ourselves as fortunate over these years with the support we have enjoyed from partner states like yours. Today shows one of such benefits coming from such partnerships”
“This project adds to several other school projects that our company had embarked upon over the last five years across the North for the benefit of our immediate host communities and other locations where we do business” he revealed.
Vervelde also revealed that ‘’ In Winning with Nigeria, We have intervened in improving the educational landscape through building classrooms & furniture, libraries & books, toilets, boreholes in schools across the country (and specifically in Kaduna, Kano, Sokoto), and we had our second edition of the Maltina Teacher of the Year event with Mr. Amaya Akpala Bamido as the Katsina State Champion.
“We have invested over N175b in developing world-class brewing facilities in the past 5 years, supported in the nation’s food security through our over N1billion Sorghum value chain project via the sponsorship of a research into the development of higher yield sorghum seedlings – thus raising farmer yields from 1 to 4.5tons per hectare over a 5 year period, invested into Cassava value chain to increase cultivation and industrial utilization of the tuber, we support a work force of about 4000 ensuring families have and enjoy the basic means of livelihood, supporting local manufacturing of bottles, cans, crates, cartons, labels, crown corks, nylon wrappers, and wooden pallets” he affirmed.
According to Vervelde ‘’Our commitment to the overall well-being of our partner communities is an enduring testimony in all our locations nationwide, and we would continue to sustain and improve on our corporate social responsibilities as long as we are guaranteed the enabling environment to operate and do our legitimate business.
“We also thank and seek His Excellency’s continued support towards protecting businesses (like ours) in Katsina and beyond in order for us and our partners (distributors and retailers) remain profitable and thus ensuring government’s quest for improved internal generation revenue (IGR) is assured and sustained’’ he stated.
Recall that, the Nigerian Breweries Plc. commissioned a medical ward, toilet and hospital equipment at Primary Health Care Makera, Kaduna South LG Kaduna State, the company also donated blocks of class rooms, toilets, library and bole holes at Government Science andTechnical College Bukuru, South Local Government Council of PlateauState all within a space of one week.
