Gloria Bulus Crowned Queen and Ambassador of Climate in Kaduna

Environmental advocate Gloria Kasang Bulus was on Saturday, April 27, 2025, officially crowned Sarauniyar Sauyin Yanayi Chikun (Queen of Climate) and Jakadiyar Sauyin Yanayi Kudendan (Ambassador of Climate) during a coronation ceremony held in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The traditional titles were bestowed on her by His Royal Highness, Ishaku Yari, the Esu Chikun (Sa Gbagyi II), in recognition of her outstanding contributions to environmental advocacy and climate justice both within Nigeria and on the international stage.
The event was attended by traditional rulers, community leaders, environmental organizations, civil society representatives, and family members, who gathered to celebrate her achievements and reaffirm their collective commitment to environmental sustainability.
In her acceptance speech, Gloria expressed deep gratitude for the honor and used the platform to deliver a passionate call for climate action.
“This recognition belongs not only to me, but to every woman planting a tree, to every child who refuses to litter, and to every youth raising their voice for the earth,” she said.
Gloria, who has been recognized globally by former U.S. Vice President Al Gore, reflected on her childhood experiences in Kaduna and the visible environmental changes that have occurred over the years.
“Do you remember when the rains came right on time? When butterflies filled our gardens and bats danced in the evening skies above Lugard Hall? Those were signs of a healthy, balanced environment we all grew up with. But where are they now?” she asked.
Known for her work with international organizations such as 350 Africa, Africa Climate Reality Project, and numerous grassroots movements, Gloria has dedicated her career to promoting renewable energy, advocating for stronger environmental policies, and empowering communities to act on climate issues.
She pledged to use her new titles to further amplify climate messages and support local and national efforts toward environmental protection.
“Climate change knows no borders. Its impact is felt by all from rural communities to our cities. My commitment is to continue working so that our children inherit not warnings, but wonders” she added.
The coronation ceremony was celebrated with traditional performances and messages of solidarity from different groups and environmental partners. It marked a significant moment in the growing recognition of indigenous and community-based leadership in Nigeria’s climate movement.
