Family Planning: NURHI Launches ’72-Hours Clinic Makeover Compendium’ for Kaduna State

Nigerian Urban Reproductive Health Initiative (NURHI 2), on Wednesday launched it’s ’72-hours Clinic Makeover Compendium’ and Video’ that captured how they transformed Family Planning (FP), Units in 60 Primary Health Care centres in 6 Local Government Areas in Kaduna State.
The launch was done by the Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Paul Dogo, supported by his colleagues from Women Affairs and Planning and Budget Commission, during the NURHI’s 3 Years Annual Review Meeting of it’s activities in Kaduna State.

In his remarks, the Commissioner, thanked NURHI for her immense contribution to FP in the state, saying, “NURHI has done a lots for Kaduna State, by transforming Family Planning units in many of our facilities within a very short space of time.
“With the advocacy strategy of NURHI, a lot has been achieved. Their high level advocacy to our executive council to create budget line for family planning has yielded a lot of fruit, as a result there is creation and release of budget.
“More women now access FP. We have also recorded new acceptors and also adopted the task shifting/sharing policy. More than enough methods are usually available for women to choose from.
“The challenge is now ours to provide the needed platform to scale it up. NURHI targets women, youth and men in rural areas to avoid deaths, we must therefore reach out to these people with modern family planning methods and i believe with the support of our partners, we will make progress in the state.”
Speaking about the ’72-hours clinic makeover’, Deputy Project Director, NURHI 2, Mr. Olusina Olulana, noted that the project has shown that with little investment, much can be achieved for FP.
“Through the 72-hours clinic makeover, we have been able to demonstrate that we can do more with less and this is one of the the legacies we plan to leave behind. It is our heart desire to continue to work with the state in order to harvest a huge return on investment as evidenced by significant improvement in the knowledge, attitude and behavior of the intending audience weighed against those who were unexposed to the program.”
He explained that the purpose of the meeting is was to re-reinforce shared vision for a successful NURHI 2 program implementation model to build a knowledge base on scaling up NURHI Proven-to-Work intervention approach.
“Review NURHI’s year 3 activities, highlighting innovations, and effective strategies, share experiences and lessons learnt, identify issues (structural, political, social, cultural, etc.) that impact positively and negatively on project implementation, obtain open reflections from keys stakeholders based on their direct or indirect involvement or participation in the implementation of year 3 work plan activities.
“Use the outcomes of the review meeting to inform the development of a realistic Year 4 work plan in order to enhance our support to the state to lead, own, sustain and implement the CBS agenda.” Ololana added.
He thank the Kaduna state governor, commissioner for Health and Human Services, as well as, the Director, Primary Health Care Development Agency, Civil Society Organizations, amongst others for their cooperation, saying, “the high-trust premium they have in our collaborative partner with the state over the years cannot be over emphasized.”
