After three years of total blackout of the Nigeria Union of Journalists from his activities, the Kaduna State Governor Malam Nasir El-rufai has apologized to the Union in what looks like a move to build a good relationship.
Recall that the governor has in different occasions arrested some journalists for publishing certain reports and sued others which did not go down well with the national body of the union and international communities which placed the state in the number one position of the most dangerous place to practice journalism in the country.
Governor, through his Counselor on Information, Alhaji Saidu Adamu, during an interactive meeting with journalists at their on Thursday, noted that, the governor is learning, and has realised his mistakes and he is ready to make amends henceforth
.
“This is the best time for us to be close real journalists knowing that technology has made everyone a journalist. As a government we need you more than you need us.
“We are aware of the role you played in 2015 in bringing us to power, leadership is all about learning, you can recall that during Obasanjo’s time whenever he did something wrong he always come out and say he is sorry, it’s a mistake.
“El-rufai is a normal human being like any other person, it is normal to have issues among ourselves especially in a state and when amendment is made, that is the only way the state will grow.
“It is very important that we collaborate with you journalists and that is why l have come to interact with you and also appeal to you that l want you to be part of us. What has happened has happened.”
He said, he want to have a new course with journalists to chart a new cause to work in collaboration with them, saying, “i want you to assist us because so we can chart a new way of how you will promote the activities of the state government.
“We know we have a lot of challenges in the state, we will not allow it until something happen before going to the press, we should try to work together.
“I see you as important hands needed to move the state forward. Malam Nasiru Ahmed El-Rufai has his left and right and so we should join hands together to move the state forward.”
