Edo APC Suspends Ex-guber Aspirant for Flouting Party’s Rule
The All Progressives Congress, APC, in Edo State has suspended a former governorship aspirant of the party, Mr Blessing Agbomhere, for allegedly dragging the party to court.
Other allegations levelled against him include, “Flouting the rules, regulations and decisions of the party as regards conduct of primary elections, absenting himself from meetings to which he was duly invited to clear himself of allegations, an act, it said, which amounted to total disregard for the party’s executive committee and stakeholders.”
Agbomhere, on his part, described his suspension as nonsensical, saying: “I am still a member of the APC and you cannot suspend me from the office of the Deputy Governor. They are just wasting their time, you cannot suspend me when I have not done anything wrong.”
It will be recalled that Agbomhere who also participated in the House of Representatives primaries of the party, for the bye election into the Etsako federal constituency election held in February, had accused the party leadership of imposing the eventual winner of the election, Mr Johnson Oghuma, on the party.
He consequently went to court to contest the emergence of Oghuma as the party’s candidate. But the party frowned at the court action without exhausting all avenues of redress as provided for in the party’s constitution.
His letter of suspension was dated April 5, 2017 and was jointly signed by the Chairman of APC in Etsako Central Local Government Area, Zakari Ozizi and 26 other members of the executive.
Copies of the suspension letter were also made available to Governor Godwin Obaseki and his Deputy, Philip Shaibu.
