Some aggrieved workers on the payroll of Kaduna State government has warned of any attempt to brand them as ghosts workers.
The workers who are from various ministries, Departments and Agencies on Wednesday took their protest to the secretariat of Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) in Kaduna accusing the officials of the ongoing verification exercise in the state of refusing to give them their cheques after being verified.
The leader of the protesters Mrs. Celina Monday while speaking to journalists, said they have been going in and out of Zenith Bank since the verification exercise began two months ago.
“We have been captured since two months ago but we have not been given our cheques they keep asking us to come everyday and some of us do come from Zaria, Kafanchan and other parts of the state.” she lamented
According to Mrs. Monday ”we know that his Excellency Mal. El-Rufai has released our salaries because we have already gotten our payslips but Zenith Bank has withheld our payment in an attempt to brand us ghosts workers.”
She said their fears now is that after waiting for their cheques for two months, the exercise is coming to a close on Wednesday and that they don’t know what their fate may become after the exercise. Saying “we have approached the manager of the bank Mr. Musa Ibrahim but most times he don’t even give us attention.”
”It was only yesterday he met us and ask us to write our names after writing the names he said we should comeback today that he was going to see us by 7am but unfortunately as soon as he left his colleagues there told us to stay at home pending when the bank is ready to call us via phone meanwhile the exercise ends today”
”we are begging the governor to look into it because we are genuine workers of the state, we have genuine documents and we are aware that the governor is an educated man he understands what we’re going through.” She pleaded.
It could be recalled that Kaduna state government started verification of its worker in a bid to cut cost the of running it’s governance.
