Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Yakubu Dogara said hope to rescue the abducted Chibok-girls is still alive even as he vowed that members of the House of Representatives will do all within their power to see the girls are back alive.

Chibok-girls are the students of Government Girls Secondary school Chibok a community in Southern Borno State North-eastern Nigeria who were  abducted by the deadly Boko Haram insurgents while writing their West African Senior Secondary School Examination (WASSSE) in April 14th, 2014.

Dogara. In a series of tweet on his twitter handle @Speakerdogara tweeted that “Hope regard the rescue of the Chibok girls remains alive and we in the House of Representatives have vowed to do everything within our power to complement the effort of Mr. President at getting them back.

The Speaker however, blamed the past administration under President Goodluck Jonathan who he said its sluggish response to the abduction of the girls two years ago was responsible for their long stay in captivity.

“If the government then had sprung into action immediately, our girls would most likely be with us today,” Dogara tweeted.

The Speaker lamented that, abduction of women and girls is just one of the many horors the people of North-east are facing, adding that “we must also spare a thought and say a prayer for the souls of scores of students who were killed on assembly grounds in Postikum, and in dormitories in Buni Yadi and in other places may God comfort their parents.

He also called on leaders not to allow politics come in between their discharge of duties, while he demanded that leaders should take it upon themselves to protect the younger generation and make sure schools are safe places for learning.

“As leaders we must ensure that, this evil is totally eradicated from our land and that it never rear its ugly head again
