Borno Job Portal: 223 Graduates for Employment on Zulum’s Recommendation

Following online jobs portal launched by the Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum in September, more than 223 unemployed graduates have been recommended for different job opportunities, mostly at the federal government level and some, in the private sector. The beneficiaries were selected from hundreds of applicants who registered their curriculum vitaes on the portal.

The portal was created by the state’s Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation.

The commissioner, Dr Babagana Mustapha, who plays crucial role in the innovation, said the 223 applicants were selected based on the requirements of their potential employers.

The commissioner highlighted that 26 applicants with Bachelor’s Degrees (Bsc) and 15 others with Masters degrees (MSc), all in relevant disciplines, were recommended to the Federal Character Commission to fill possible employment slots at the federal civil service.

Another 50 applicants, Mustapha explained, were recommended to the MTN mobile telecommunications company for consideration in field marketing. He said eight applicants were recommended for employment at a federal fishery institution.

The commissioner added that 50 others were nominated for a scholarship award by the government of Japan; while another 50 applicants were selected for a train-the-trainers Internship Programmes in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) education.

Mustapha said apart from the 223 applicants recommended from the job portal for employment opportunities, the ministry had, from the same source, recommended a “reasonable number of applicants” to the National Population Commission (NPC) for employment in the commission’s activities on demarcation and issuance of birth certificates to Nigerians.
