Benin Stood still as Ize-Iyamu declares for Governor Edo 2016
Ahead the September 10 governorship election in Edo state, Pastor Osagie Ize-Iyamu, a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) aspirant unveiled his agenda or manifesto to the public in Benin yesterday after collecting his nomination form from the party secretariat saying that the redemption time for Edo people has come.
He said that the suffering of Edo people caused by the insensitive Comrade Oshiomhole government would soon end as his political agenda would totally emancipate them.
Titled `the Simple agenda’, he said that it would be the covenant between him and Edo people whose welfare and development of the state was its focus. While stressing that his government would carry the people along in the formulation and implementation of policy he noted that it was the only way of securing their confidence.
“A government which cannot boast of having the confidence of the people will not survive the test of democracy”, he said.
The PDP governorship aspirant who said that his objective in politics was people centred added that he was motivated by the four cardinal points of the old Unity Party of Nigeria in putting his agenda together.
He pointed out that the agenda would not only make Edo people know the direction of his administration but also judge him from day one when he becomes governor.
He stressed that the essential key to the agenda was a struggle for true democracy that “locates the people at its epicentre”.
In his words “we shall use the Simple Agenda to bring economic and social justice to all, irrespective of political, religious or ethnic inclination”
Ize-Iyamu expressed the optimism that the agenda would halt and reverse the dwindling fortunes of the youths, women and pensioners in the state.
The purpose of government he said was the pursuance of happiness for the greater majority of the people.
“The government of Edo state under my leadership will strive to meet this purpose at all times, and serve the needs of the good people of Edo state efficiently, effectively and fairly through good governance that is geared towards solving social problems in the state” he said.
