A mother of three who set her 8-years old daughter ablaze in Kaduna has been arrested by men of Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Available information shows that Chinwendu (name withheld) was asked by her mother to take care of her two siblings while she went out to attend to her business.

But, when she left the house, the eight-year-old daughter also left for neighbour’s house to watch TV series leading to her younger siblings scattering the house before the mother returned.

The already exhausted mother became so angry over the state of her apartment and poured premium motor spirit also known as petrol on the girl and set her ablaze as punishment.

Investigation ongoing to ascertain the mental state of a young woman allegedly set own daughter ablaze in Kaduna over a trivia offence.

It was revealed that after the incident, she did not care to take the girl to hospital for medical help, instead, locked her up for six days before a good samaritan raised the alarm which attracted men of Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and got her arrested while the girl is now recuperating at emergency unit of a specialist hospital in Kaduna.

Visiting the girl in the hospital on Wednesday, wife of Governor Nasir El-Rufai, Arch. Hadiza Isma El-Rufai expressed shock and directed that the woman be taken to psychiatric hospital in Barnawa, Kaduna for mental examination.

Meanwhile, Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajiya Hafsat Baba confirmed on Wednesday evening that, the woman is presently cooling her feet at NSCDC’s custody for investigation.

“It was shocking and unimaginable that a mother could do such to her own daughter. We are not sure of other children are safe around her. In fact, information reaching us revealed that, there was a time the girl’s hand was burnt because she lied to her mother.

“But the girl was lucky this time around. Good Samaritan reported the case to my ministry and we swung into action immediately. The mother is presently in the custody of the NSCDC for investigation”, the commissioner hinted.
