We are Open to Collaboration on Road Accident ‎- NUJ Chair Assures FRSC

Chairman, Nigeria Union of Journalists Kaduna state Chapter, Garba Mohammed, has assured the ‎Federal Road Safety Corp (FRSC) that the Unoin’s door is open to any form of collaboration that will ensure road accident free in the country. 

Garba gave the assurance when he received ‎The FRSC Zonal Commanding Officer (RS1) in-charge of Kaduna, Kano,Jigawa and Katsina, Mr Bulus Darwang who was at the NUJ secretariat to solicit for media support to reduce the risk of roads accidents to the barest
minimum.‎

According to him, “our doors are open for any collaboration that will ‎
drive  public enlighten in order to reduce the risk of road accidents to the barest minimum.”

He commended the FRSC for their
partnership with NEMA to reduce the risk of roads accidents especially in the Ember months.

In his response, ‎Mr. Darwang disclosed that the Corp marshal has given them a standing order that he don’t want to hear any road crashing along Abuja/ Kaduna highway within this four days and that by the grace of God they have achieve that.‎

He explained that the rate of Car crashing between Kaduna,Jigawa,Kano
and Katsina is highly alarming, to reduce the road accidents to the
barest minimum we need to step up alongside public enlightenment and we cannot achieve this without the support of the media.

He also maintain that speed violation is another challenge, it has
showned that 50 percent of road accident across the Country is cause by over speeding.

Darwang also pointed out that “Tire busting is another monster which
as a result we lost six Ekiti Doctors who on their way to Sokoto,
Minister of State for Labor Mr James Ocholi along Kaduna/ Abuja
highway we also lost Students between Ibadan and Lagos.

“That was why the FRSC in its wisdom declared a one week tire safety campaign nationwide, we have gone to,Jigawa,Kano,Katsina and lastly in Kaduna.

“We’ll sustain the campaign to the end of the year and beyond.”
