UK Based Philanthropist Launches Foundation to Carter for Widows of Military Personnel

A UK based philanthropist, Mashood Kayode Yusuf, on Friday in Kaduna kick started a charity organization to carter for widows of military men who died in the course of protecting their father’s land.

The organization, “Lieutenant Colonel Kabiru Yusuf Help For Heroes Foundation” was founded to immortalize late Lt Col. Kabiru Yusuf, who died in active service in 2016, by his brother Mashood.

Late Lt. Col. Kabiru Yusuf, recalled was declared missing in action during an attack by the dreaded Boko Haram insurgent at Ghashigar in Maiduguri, Borno State on 16th October, 2016, and was later found dead by the river bank three months after and laid to rest on 06 January, 2017.

Speaking to newsmen at the commissioning of its office in Kaduna office, Matron of the organization, Hajiya Sola Raji, said the organisation is “aimed at extending helping hands and providing succor to widows of fallen heroes or injured soldiers in at the war front both serving and retired.

“We also provide a kind of additional assistance which will in turn compliments support carried out by the Nigerian Armed Forces to such families.”

The Foundation, presented relief items like food stuffs and cosmetics to a number of women who were present at the opening.

In her reaction, ‘Magajiya’ (Leader of Wives of Soldiers) of 1 Division Mechanised Nigerian Army, Mrs. Rita Ellias, commended founder of the organization for his gesture of remembering widows of soldiers at a very critical time.

“I know how widows of our soldiers are suffering in the barracks, and coming up at this time with a helping hands for them is one of the things that has happened at this point in time.

“I prayed that God multiplies everything you are giving to these widows and also empower you as you continue to provide for them.” She prayed.

On her part widow of late Kabiru Yusuf, Bashirat Kabiru, disclosed that the foundation will be formally launched in January 06, 2017.
