Lagos park traders Association, has made a passionate appeal to Governor Nasir El-Rufai to quickly intervene into a legal tussle between the traders in Yakowa shopping complex Mando and an indegenous company Rogo trading company over the ownership of the complex.
The traders who claim to be tenants of Kaduna North local government believe the intervention of the governor would greatly help to douse the tension brewing up at the complex over the continuous ‘harassment’ of the Rogo trading company to evict them from their shops forciful following a court judgement in their favour.
Addressing Journalists at the complex at the weekend, the Chairman of the Association, Alhaji Suleiman Ahmed Lana alleged that the name Rogo company who shared the plot in front of the complex had taken Kaduna North local government to court and secured a court judgement that the whole area including the complex are his company’s property and therefore all the tenants in the building totalling one hundred and twelve should vacate within seven days.
The traders believed it is unlawful for the Rogo company to take them to court along with Kaduna North local government since they are only tenants who entered into agreement with the local government authority and have been paying their shop rents to accordingly.
They traders alleged that since the judgement by a Kaduna High court in 2014 in favour of the Rogo company, they have suffered series of harassment and intimidation by some unknown youths who claimed to be working for Rogo trading company.
The traders who said they are law abiding citizens urged the governor to wade into the issue and ensure that Rogo company cease forthwith their joining into any court case between the company and their landlord.
They said, the action of the misjoinder of the tenants as parties apart from negating the basic principles of law and abuse of legal process, it has continuously perpetrated acts inimical to their free business operations.
Towards this end, the traders urged governor El-Rufai whom they described as a leader whose antecedents for righting social injustice to come to their rescue and save them from where they made their living.
Meanwhile, when the Interim Management Committee Chairman of Kaduna North local government Wing Commander G.A Kurfi (Retd) was contacted on the matter, he acknowledged knowledge of the matter and lamented why the previous administration failed to appear when the case was taken to court and suspected a conspiracy.
He disclosed that the court has ever since the case was ruled in favour of Rogo company has been deducting money from the local government account as part of monies awarded to the company.
Wing Commander Kurfi informed however that his administration will do the needful to ensure that law and order is maintained while assuring that will be required to amicably resolved the issues will be looked into.
