Sultan Inaugurates Board for Peace, Reconciliation

Sultan of Sokoto, his Eminence, Sa’ad Abubakar yesterday inaugurated an eight man board of Interfaith Centre for Documentation, Peace and Reconciliation saddled with the responsibilities to address issues of trauma, conflict and peace building in Nigeria.
Speaking at the inauguration, Sultan Abubakar, who is also one of the ceremonial chairman of the Centre, charged the board to work effortlessly in ensuring there is peace in the country.
He said, it is obvious that countries around the world are interested in seeing Nigeria live in peace and stabilty, insisting that only Nigerians can ensure the country is in peace as no body can force peace on Nigerians.
”I want to tell you know body can force peace on us or in our minds, Nigerians will be the only one who can ensure peace reigns in our country.
“But we take support from outside the country because we believe that the world is a global village and we are part of humanity, we accept such offers for help from our brothers and sisters from across the world. So we call on our brothers and sisters in Nigeria to work with us in this particular platform to bring peace to our country.
“We intend to reach out to everyone across the country, every nook and corners of this country we believe you here about this committee because we believe without peace there won’t stability. ” He explained.
Early, Emmanuel Udofia, president Christian Council of Nigeria (CCN), who also doubled as ceremonial chairman of the Centre, said what the centre is interested in at this point in time is how Nigerians can co exist irrespective of their religious affiliation.
According to him, what Nigeria need now is a peaceful and stable Nation were development can thrive.
He said God’s plan for Nigeria is for its citizens to be their brothers keep, he therefore called on the committee to do everything within their reach at ensuring God’s purpose for the Nation is achieved.
The Centre was born out recommendations made by a joint delegation from the World Council of Churches (WCC) and the Royal Ahl AL-Bayt Foundation (RAABF) when they visit Nigeria three years ago over the incessant Muslims Christians conflicts in Nigeria.
Members of the board include:
Professor. D.O.S. Noibi, Reverend. Yusuf Ibrahim Wushishi, Cardinal John Onaiyekan and Dr. Khalid Abubakar Aliyu.
Others are: Dr. Atiku Balarabe Zawiya, Mrs. Uzoaku Juliana Williams, Rev. Timothy Yahaya and Hajiya. Aishat Ahmed Hassan. They will be supported by the Centre’s Secretariat.
