Sports: Skating will take it rightful place- NSU President

President Nigeria Skating Union (NSU), Alhaji Abdullahi Mu’azu has said Skating would soon be one of the sports to reckon with in Nigeria, as the union is doing everything humanly possible to give the game the recognition it deserves.

Abdullahi said this during his opening remarks on the final day of the just concluded Kaduna Inter-Community Roller Skating Championship organised by Peace Revival and Reconciliation Foundation of Nigeria in collaboration with the Nigeria Skating Union over the weekend in Kaduna.

The President added that the Union has applied to many international Skating federations to seek recognition for the Nigerian Skating, in turn conditions were given to the Nigerian Skating Union to meet before they get the needed affiliations with those Federations so that Nigeria Skaters can take part in many competitions going on around the world.

Abdullahi further stated that in order to meet those conditions by the international Skating Federations and even to get recognition from the Nigeria Sports Commission, the Union has been working assidously to promote the game and also discover talents for onward exposure to the world.

Also Speaking at the final day was the founder of Peace Revival and Reconciliation Foundation of Nigeria, Pastor Yohana Buru who said the essence of organising the competition is to promote peace among the diverse people living in Kaduna state, particularly at this time that the General Elections has come, the youth instead of being used as political thugs, are here engaged in sporting activities.

Buru said he choose the Skating Sports because he intended to use the Skaters to go out and campaign for peace before the election, stressing that “For the sake of peace there is nothing I cannot do, with this now, we make the boys not to be accessible for mischief makers who would want to use them as political thugs.”

Skaters competed for laurels in the following categories; 1500 mitre Long Tract Speed Skating for Male and Female, Hurdle Jump Stunt, Rag Chase and Child Race with the theme; ‘towards a culture of operation during and after 2015 General Election’.

Abubakar Sadiq won the first category of the 1500m Race, while Kabir Abdulrahman and Abdulrahman Ibrahim won the second and third categories respectively, Saratu Abdulraheem won the female category while the Child Race which is more of a family affairs was won by Ismail Ibrahim at the expense of Abduljabar and Abdulkareem Ibrahim.

Religious leaders, traditional rulers and many civil society groups were among the thousands of lovers of Skating Sports that throng Murtala Square Venue of the events to cheers the Skaters to glory.
