As part of his rotten visit to orientation camps across the country, the Director General, National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) Brig-General Johnson Olawumi who was represented in Kaduna NYSC orientation camp by Mrs. Mary Dan-Abia Director Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development, charged the Corps Members to think big in everything they do.
He said the only way they can achieve there real purpose and dreams in life is by setting visions for themselves and thinking of being an owner and employers of labour.
Olawumi, who was taken around the skilled works of the corps members for assessment , commended their efforts saying “as young people this is all you need in life to succeed, if i had this kind of opportunity in my time by now I wouldn’t have being in the civil service.”
He urged them not to go back home and be waiting for jobs to do. He added that even if they want to wait, they should try and create jobs for themselves with the skills they already acquired while in camp.
“You don’t need to depend on federal allowance during your service year, create your own income, grow it so that you can be able to meet up with your financial responsibilities. With this you will know that you went for service year and when you go back home, you will become richer, better and more equipped.”
He challenged them to come up with viable business plans as there are already arrangement with some banks to give out loans for them to start up their businesses. He advised them not to be thinking of million dollar businesses for a start as there are stories of those who started with very little capital and today they are very successful in their businesses.
Olawumi expresses satisfaction over the conducts of the corps members saying “this is one of the best set of corps members I have seen, am excited the way you have kept the camp clean and I can assure you your camp is the cleanest of all the camps I have visited.
Earlier in his address, the Kaduna state coordinator of the NYSC, Mr. Hilary Nasamu told the DG that all what he saw at the exhibition stand are not fluke but a well thought out plans and achievements by the corps members.
“With the kind of corps members we have here I have no doubt in my mind that in the very near future we would win skills acquisition competition. You can see that these ones has accepted the challenges of the orientation camp the way they come, what matters to them now is what they can take away from here. I tell you these are the most disciplined corps members I have seen.” Hilary said.
