The National chairman of the party, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun is one of the expected casualties, which some party sources have attributed the constant visit of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation Engr. Babachir David Lawal to the National Secretariat as a means of negotiating a soft landing for the chairman.

For the second time within a week, the SGF paid a surprise visit to the Secretariat. Babachir on Thursday was in a closed door meeting with the national chairman of the party, John Oyegun, over next week all important meetings of the party.

There were strong speculations that the incumbent APC national chairman may be asked to step down during the all important meetings scheduled for next week.

It was, however, gathered that the frequent visit of the SGF was to provide a soft landing for Chief Oyegun.

Engr. Babachir was at the  APC national Secretariat last week Friday and had meeting with some national officers who were around, also visited on Thursday with another closed door meeting with the national chairman and his deputy, South, Mr. Segun Oni, which lasted for an hour.

It would be recalled that, Oyegun proceeded on two weeks break and resumed last Monday where he confirmed to newsmen  that “Yes, all the scheduled meetings of the party will run as planned, the caucus on the 21st, the BOT on the 22nd and NEC on the 24th. Everything will go as planned.”

The national chairman also spoke on the party’s plan to appoint a new spokesperson saying arrangements have been concluded to hold the necessary congresses to nominate the spokesperson.

“I think that should be done very shortly. In fact the issue is getting somebody that can be as close as possible to the outstanding performance of the present minister of information, Lai Mohammed.

“I think that has been the issue. As a matter of fact if it means making adjustments somebody who is good is priority number one and you can make adjustments subsequently”, he said.
