Kaduna residents have applauded the State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai’s roads construction in the ongoing urban renewal project.
They also appealed to the Governor to give same attention to other parts of the state in the spirit and practice of equity.
Speaking with NEWSWEB EXPRESS on Friday, Olatubosun Adegoke, who has lived in the city for over 25 years, said “Gov. El-Rufai is trying in the aspect of road construction, but he should try not to be biased. I reside in Nassarawa and once you cross the bridge to the other side, you will think you are outside Kaduna. You see areas like Television, Sabo, Nassarawa and others. We heard he is about to do something and we are hoping that he will do it soon.”
Similarly, Alih Saleh, said though the governor is doing well, he should also give attention to other places in the southern part of the city.
According to him “I am not a citizen of Kaduna State, but I’ve spent over 30 years in this city. Honestly, Gov. El-Rufai is doing an amazing job ‘roadwise’ but he seems to be concentrating on the northern part. If we talk of places like Sabo, Kakuri, Barnawa and the rest, these places need attention as well and the Governor should try to do something about it.”
While expressing his joy over the level of construction works going on in the city, Paul Audu, a commercial tricycle rider who was born and raised in the city, currently residing at Ungwan Rimi noted “I’ve never seen another Governor in Kaduna with good road construction like El-Rufai. I give the Governor 100% in roads construction. I now drive smoothly without potholes, but we’re still expecting the ShopRite and other things he promised us, and we need water also.”
An excited 45 years old indigene of the State; Lawal Hassan, a civil servant with the Federal Government, also praised the Governor and encouraged him to apply similar energy in other sectors in the state, for Kaduna to become the best state in the country.
“One can see the El-Rufai that helped transform the FCT in action. You see places in the city like the Sokoto road, near the government house and you will know that if he applies the same energy to other sectors, Kaduna will be the best state in the country in no time” he said.
Aisha Suleiman, a 23 years old student with the Kaduna State University (KASU) said the governor deserves accolades and should continue to help transform the look of the city.
“The governor is doing a great job. You see work ongoing within the city and I heard about two overhead bridges are under construction. It’s really a great development. The only issue is that the work is mostly concentrated on certain areas. If Rigasa could be transformed to what it is today, I believe other places like Kakuri, Sabo and the rest can also be transformed.” She added.
However, another resident, Fati Baba, a trader at the Kaduna Central Market expressed concern for the properties being demolished and appealed to the Governor to create employment opportunities for those affected.
“The governor is trying,he is constructing good roads everywhere. The only problem is that shops and buildings are being demolished, and people have lost their jobs. My son also lost his job. The governor should try to create jobs for those affected” she said.
