‘Release Fani- Kayode Or Charge Him To Court’, Afenifere Demands

Yoruba socio- political organisation Afenifere has frowned at the continuous detention of a former Minister of Aviation, Chief Femi Fani- Kayode by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), for five weeks, even after meeting his bail conditions.
The group, in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Yinka Odumakin on Monday said information available shows that the anti-graft agency is planning to get another court order to detain him further without being charged to court.

It therefore called on the anti- graft agency to release the the former Publicity Secretary of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Presidential Campaign Organisation or charge him to court.

While accusing the EFCC of selective treatment, the group argued that a chieftain of the ruling party, Jafaru Isa was also arrested for the same offence but allowed to go after spending a night in EFCC cell.

“Afenifere demands immediate release of Femi Fani-kayode who will be clocking 5 weeks in EFCC cell on Wednesday. We are being told that EFCC is planning to get another detention order to continue his incarceration”.

“We are at a loss as to why EFCC to announce to the whole world that he committed a crime by collecting for campaign and hold him for five weeks without charging him to court. It is in the same country that EFCC accused one Jafaru Isa of collecting money for election and allowed him to go after a night in EFCC cell” .

“Why is Fani-kayode situation different if indeed it is all about corruption and not a ploy to keep him out of circulation for his critical views especially on the criminalities of the Fulani herdsmen? . We demand that he be charged to court immediately or set free if there is no charge against him” the statement said.
