Publishers Forum Slams Desperate Politicians Over Reckless Comment’s Against Judiciary

Following recent developments surrounding the judicial pronouncements, a group, Arewa Online Publishers Forum, (FOAP) has slammed desperate politicians over reckless and misguided backlash comment’s against judiciary.
This was also as it called on well meaning Nigerians to also condemn the acts by the desperate politicians to save the nation from sliding into the precipice of anarchy.
The forum in a statement signed by its Chairman, Ibrahim S. Mordecai made available to newsmen in Kaduna yesterday, expressed regret over the character exhibited by the desperate politicians whom he said failed to exhibit maturity and imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship after the pronouncements.
According to the forum, “following the recent judgements of the Supreme Court in some electoral cases as they affect Rivers, Abia and Akwa Ibom states, FOAP observed with utmost regret how some politicians embarked on reckless and misguided backlash of the judiciary, especially the Supreme Court without due consideration of the law and rational for the system of the governance that we operate.
“it is rather unfortunate that if you ask the APC politician in Zamfara and Lagos states, he will tell you the Judiciary is the last hope of the common man, but if you ask the PDP politician in these same states, he might tell you something different. This is a clear indication of the lack of maturity and the lack of the spirit of sportsmanship which certainly does not augur well for the development of our democracy.
“It is imperative to caution that when the Supreme Court of the land gives its ruling on a matter, litigants should as a matter of decency, maturity and respect for the rule of law abide by such ruling without making attempts to cast aspersion on the integrity of the justices of the apex court. Doing so is tantamount to making efforts towards destroying a very important institution like the Supreme Court.
“the judiciary indeed remains the last hope of the common man and it is duty bound to act in accordance with the dictates of the law and not in accordance with the whims and caprices of any politician or a political party.
“We therefore call on politicians and political parties to exercise restraints in their vituperations against the judiciary. We also call on well meaning Nigerians to condemn these acts of desperate politicians and save the nation from sliding into the precipice of anarchy and lawlessness resulting from these exhibitions of distrust for the judiciary when determined cases do not go their way,” it stated.
