The Imo State Police Command has arrested suspected 25 members of the “Black Axe” cult and armed robbery syndicate suspects.
Addressing journalists at the Command Headquarters, Owerri, the State Commissioner of Police, Mr. Austin Evabakhavbokun said that the command on Sunday, June 14, 2015 through a tip-off arrested the 25 black axe cultists whose ages according to him range between 20 and 30.
The Commissioner of Police, who spoke through his Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Andrew Enwerem said that the suspects were arrested at Ihiagwa, in the Owerri West Council Area after converging to hold their National Conference and initiation in a bush around the Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO).
He listed the exhibits recovered from them to include: One locally made cut-to-size gun, one life carriage and expanded carriages.
Fielding questions from our correspondent, one of the suspects, Lloyd Boyd (21) confessed to have committed the crime.
Boyd, who claimed to be a civil engineering student of FUTO, disclosed that most of them were arrested in the early hours of the Sunday when they were coming out of the bush from the initiation ground.
Equally, their alleged native doctor who pleaded not to be mentioned regretted that all that his preparation for the smooth-running of the initiation came to nil. He said “This is the first time I conjured what I am known for and it did not work”.
Most of the suspects said that they were undergraduates of FUTO.
The CP, in strong terms, said that police was determined to wipe crime out of the state.
