Oliseh Quits Eagles Job
Super Eagles Head Coach, Sunday Oliseh resigned from the Nigerian job early hours of Friday morning to end his seven-month acrimonious relationship with the Nigeria Football Federation. (NFF).
Oliseh announced his resignation at about 2.22am via his official Twitter handle @SundayOOliseh.
He said: “I feel fortunate, blessed and eternally grateful for having had the honour to play, captain & coach this great nation of ours, Nigeria.”
Oliseh continued: “Due to contract violations, lack of support, unpaid wages, benefits to my players, asst. coaches & myself, I resign as Super Eagles Chief Coach. – Sunday Oliseh, Super Eagles Chief Coach,” concludes the statement.
No Nigerian football official could immediately be reached for reaction to Oliseh’s resignation barely a month to Nigeria’s make or mar clash with Egypt on March 25 in Kaduna. The return leg holds five days later in Cairo.
There have been no love lost between Oliseh and the Technical Committee of the NFF headed by Christopher Green.
Oliseh was supposed to be part of the committee’s meeting in Abuja on Thursday morning but avoided the meeting on the ground that he was going to meet up with Eagles playing in the English Premier League this weekend.
But the Eagles manager spoke via video calling at the Social Media Week in Lagos where he revealed that the technical committee has since July been unable to get for him video and match analysis of the Pharaohs.
Oliseh had earlier this week admitted that he had to use his influence to get it from a contact in Egypt.
NFF leadership led by Amaju Pinnick is in Zurich, Switzerland to be part of the 209- member federation to elect a new president for FIFA friday.
His mobile phones could not be reached when THISDAY called him for reactions.
Only a fortnight ago, Oliseh was made to apologise to Nigerians over his rants on YouTube where he described his critics as insane.
Oliseh was incensed at critics asking him to quit the Eagles job because Nigeria crashed out of the 2016 African Nations Championship in Rwanda at the group stage.
Nigeria’s 1-0 loss to Guinea ended Eagles campaign after a win over Mali and a draw with Tunisia.
The ex international insisted that Eagles have not done badly under his watch having only lost two out of 14 games he was in-charge.
