This is coming some days after the Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to governor Nasir El-Rufa, Samuel Aruwan threatened journalists during the Northern States Governors Forum meeting in Kaduna that hence forth coverage of NSGF meetings will be limited to few selected journalists.
According to the NUJ, ”in case it goes ahead on issue of preventing journalists from covering major assignment such as governors forum meeting, the council will not hesitate to boycott such assignment.”
They commended the Borno state governor, Kashim Shettima for his magnanimity and warm reception accorded journalists during the 19 Northern States Governors forum meeting held in Kaduna recently and directed that a letter of commendation be written to acknowledge the kind gesture.
The council lauded the NSGF over its resolve to end insurgency, tackle poverty ,illiteracy as well as reposition the north, Urging governor Shettima to consolidate on the success achieved during the last meeting held on Kaduna.
The NUJ also thank the Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company, (KRPC) ,Senator Shehu Sani and Senator Danjuma La’ah for their invaluable contributions and support rendered to the union during the Abuja delegates conference.
The council refuted speculation making rounds that the council exco hijacked Hajj seat and distributed to cronies are unfounded and should be disregarded. It therefore stressed that council did not receive Hajj or Jerusalem seat from Kaduna state government this year, but gathered that some members benefited such seat directly from the state government.
On the upcoming elections of the council, the congress agreed that the elections should unfailingly be conducted in December to avoid violation of the NUJ constitution.
