NIMechE Kaduna Chapter Gets New Chairman, Executive Team

The Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), Kaduna Chapter, has ushered in a new era of leadership as Engr. Basiru Oyekan, MNIMechE, emerged Chairman during the Chapter’s Annual General Meeting held on Saturday, August 23, 2025.
He succeeds Engr. Ojo Emmanuel Adedayo, MNSE, MNIMechE, MAutoEI, who bowed out after steering the chapter through a two-year tenure marked by robust professional activities and community engagement.
In his stewardship report, Engr. Ojo highlighted the chapter’s achievements, which included industrial visits to major companies in Kaduna, career talks in secondary schools, monthly technical sessions, newsletters, and increased membership.

He also acknowledged the challenges of finance and called for more commitment from members to sustain growth.
The AGM also featured a public lecture delivered by Engr. Musa B. Ibrahim, FNIMechE, titled “STO’s in Refineries: An Overview.”
His presentation focused on the importance of Shutdowns, Turnarounds, and Outages in petroleum refineries processes that are critical to ensuring the safety, efficiency, and integrity of refinery operations while meeting both regulatory standards and market demands.
The lecture drew the participation of many professionals and underscored the technical depth of the chapter’s activities.
Taking over the mantle, Engr. Basiru Oyekan pledged to build on the achievements of his predecessor with a bold vision that prioritizes member engagement, impactful professional programs, mentorship opportunities, and financial sustainability through corporate partnerships and grants.
“I am deeply honored to lead this esteemed institution and pledge my utmost dedication to serving with integrity and passion.
Together, we will engineer a brighter future for our chapter and for mechanical engineering in Kaduna,” he declared.
The newly elected executive committee will work alongside the chairman to drive the chapter’s agenda.
They include Vice Chairman, Engr. Michael Oluwaseun Olufeso; General Secretary, Engr. Sani M. Abdulkadir; Assistant General Secretary, Engr. Yusuf Adedayo Adisa; Financial Secretary, Engr. Ibraheem Ajao Olalekan; Treasurer, Engr. Israel Likita Mathew; Technical Secretary, Kazeem Isamot Lawal.
Others are; Assistant Technical Secretary, Suraj Aliyu Kabir; Publicity Secretary, Idris Muhammed Omezia; and Ex-officio, Lucky Augustine. The immediate past chairman, Engr. Emmanuel Adedayo Ojo, also remains on the committee.
With the handover complete, members expressed confidence that the new leadership will consolidate on past gains and position NIMechE Kaduna Chapter as a stronger voice in advancing engineering practice and innovation in the state.
