As part of activities to mark the Children Day and Career Day Celebration, the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE), on Friday organized a career development pep talk for science students of Danbo International School in Kaduna.
The career development pep talk according to organizers of the event was to help the students on how to chose a career path especially how to become an engineer and the role of an engineer in the society.
The career development pep talk was organized in line with the Strategic Masterplan of NIMechE, under the institution’s response to socially impact and encourage locally impactful engineering programmes that will as well strengthen the capacity of local engineering projects and to also ensure that the Institution is globally visible based on global best practices.
According to the Chapter Chairman of NIMechE, Engineer Christy Abraham, the idea was not basically to inspire them to develop career in engineering, but to guide them on things they need to take note of as they journey in life and think about the career to go into.
She urged them to develop interest in whatever career they chose early enough to avoid delay in attaining their dreams.
Engineer Christy also tasked them to ensure they discover themselves and do what gives them joy, because that is what will live with them for the rest of their lives.

The Principal of the School, Mr. Emmanuel Obama, in his brief remarks, commended the engineers for Danbo, their choice of school to host the event.
He urged the students especially the girls to study with the best of their ability if they are interested in becoming engineers so they can compete anywhere in the world.
He noted that the presentations were not only inspiring, but that they are more than what one can get in the classroom, because it is an opportunity for the students to meet with professionals in the engineering sector in the State.
