Niger Plans Alternative Power Source to Check Outages

Plans are afoot by Niger State government to embark on alternative power source in view of the persistent power outage experienced by the state, Governor Abubakar Sani Bello, has disclosed.

He said two investors from Israel And United Arab Emirates are on ground for the take-off of the projects.

Chief Press Secretary (CPS) to Governor Sani Bello, Jibrin  Baba  Ndace, said in a statement that the governor  disclosed this  on Tuesday when he played host to the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umar Farouk Bahago, who led his councillors on sallah visit to the governor in Government House, Minna.

He said the continuous epileptic power supply being experienced in the state and in view of the vast natural endowment for power generation, the state decided to embark on the projects.

The governor also said state government was still pressing for the retention of 10 percent of the total power generated by the three hydro-electricity generating dams domiciling in the state. This is aside the state statutory power allocation.

He expressed worries over the persistent blackout experienced by the state, noting that it has affected domestic activities and both medium and Small scale businesses in the state.

On the present economic challenges experienced by the state and the country at large, Governor Sani Bello called on the people to engage themselves in businesses and agricultural activities in other to diversify the nation’s economy from the monolithic product of crude oil.

He also called for peoples’ patience over the present economic challenges and expressed optimism that the country will soon overcome the trying period.

Earlier the Emir of Minna, Alhaji Umar Farouk Bahago, commended the role played by the governor to douse the tension generated by the security challenges that recently ravaged Paikoro, Bosso and Rafi local Government Areas of the state.

The royal father appealed to his people to forget the past and not to allow the crises linger in their memories so as to enable them forge ahead in life.

He commended the government for constituting a judicial panel of inquiry to look into the remote cause of the crises in the affected areas.
