NGO Urges Kaduna Govt to Establish Nutrition Agency
Save the Children International, an NGO, on Tuesday urged the Kaduna State Government to establish an Agency for Nutrition or a department of nutrition in the state’s Primary Health Care Development Agency to tackle acute malnutrition cases in the state.
“Currently, nutrition has not been given more priority as lots of children are malnourished; this kind of problem can only be tackled by establishing an agency that will manage the problem of nutrition”, he noted.
Ibrahim stated that his organisation would render all the necessary support to Kaduna State and would strengthen partnership with CS-SUNN to ensure that the problem of malnutrition was tackled.
He also commended the state government for allocating funds for nutrition and recruiting nutritionists in various General Hospitals of the state.
Earlier, Mrs Jessica Batlome, Secretary, CS-SUNN Kaduna, solicited for support and partnership in advocacy for nutrition intervention, funding and proper coordination of nutrition interventions in the state.
“Save the Children International is recognised for safeguarding child health and welfare, due to their recognition on nutrition.
We are trying to see how we can work together to fight against malnutrition and improve nutrition funding in Kaduna State,” she added.
She added that CS-SUNN would equally engage National Youth Corps members in nutrition advocacy in the state.
