Makarfi Emerges PDP Chairman, as Party Names other EXCO members
The Peoples Democratic Party has confirmed the appointment of a former Governor of Kaduna State, Senator Ahmed Makarfi, as its Interim National Chairman.
Makarfi was chosen to replace Senator Ali Modu Sheriff, who was tactically removed on Saturday in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, the venue of the party’s National Convention.
After Sheriff announced the postponement of the Convention and left based on a face-off with governors elected on the platform of the PDP, the convention went ahead with the Deputy National Chairman, Uche Secondus presiding.
To assist Makarfi in running the affairs of the PDP Caretaker Committee are Senator Ben Obi as Secretary and Senator Odion Ugbesia, Senator Abdul Ningi, Prince Dayo Adeyeye, Aisha Aliyu and Barrister Usman as Members.
The committee has been saddled with the task of holding a National Convention where new NWC members will be elected.
It has 90 days to conduct the convention.
