Land reclamation: Ministry takes over 10 buildings in Kaduna
The Kaduna State Ministry of Education, Science and Technology on Friday took over 10 buildings within Rimi College, under the ongoing land reclamation of Gov. Nasir El-Rufa’l administration.
The commissioner in the ministry, Dr Shehu Adamu, told newsmen shortly after inspecting the buildings in Kaduna that the owners of the affected buildings had since been compensated.
Adamu explained that the ministry got the order to take over the houses because the buildings were located within Rimi College, an institution of learning under the ministry.
He recalled that at the inception of the current administration, El-Rufa’I had promised to reclaim all illegally acquired land belonging to schools, hospitals and other government agencies.
“The reclamation has started long ago and so far, compensation has been paid for the 10 houses built on the land belonging to the college.
“The government is not witch-hunting anyone, it is simply reclaiming what belongs to the people of the state,“ he said.
On the next line of action, the commissioner said that the houses would henceforth be administered by the government since they had been paid for.
The commissioner said that the State Government will decide how to put them to better use.
The commissioner inspected the buildings together with the Director General, Kaduna State Geographical Information Services, Alhaji Ibrahim Hussaini.
It would be recalled that similar exercise had been carried out in Alhudahuda College, Zaria, in 2015 where the government demolished all unapproved buildings within the school premises.
