Kano Hisbah Attack: We Have Lost Over N300M – Non-indigenes
Kano based non-Indigenous business men operating within Sabon Gari area of the state has cried out over what they called “lawless seizures and destruction” of their products by an Islamic group call Hisbah within the last three months amounting to over three hundred million Naira (N300. 000000).
Speaking to newsmen ubbehalf of the group of Distributors in Kano yesterday, Mathias Kabo, lamented that “within the last three months the Hisbah group have seized and destroyed our products worth 300million naira even though we were told by the Kano Government that since Sabon Gari is not a Muslim area the sharia law will not be applicable here but the reverse is the case”
“They have decided to do this to us because we are non-indigenes and the Kano State Government is also aware of our plight but nothing has been done about it. As we speak now Sabon Gari is one of the most viable economic areas in Kano state, and what makes the social life high is the alcohol will we sell but yet they witch-hunt us even in Sabon Gari where we are supposed to be free as if we do not have our own fundamental human rights as Nigerians” He added.
He added that “because of the restriction of alcohol in some places in Kano we do not enter Kano in broad day light, we usually wait until mid-night and these products are usually sealed just to respect the law restricting alcohol in some areas in Kano apart from Sabon Gari”
Also speaking, an indigene of the state who pleaded anonymity said “the government is aware that Sharia law is not applicable to Sabon Gari as regard sell and consumption of alcohol but the government is silent because of political reasons, and the way these people (Hisbah) carry out this act is funny because they hide on the routs leading to Sabon Gari where they ambush trailers carrying alcohol, it is unfortunate because even in Sokoto the seat of Caliphate, Zamfara, Katsina and Kebbi alcohol is sold in unrestricted areas without any witch-hunting”.
The group called on President Mohammadu Buhari, the Nigerian Human Right Commission, and all well-meaning Nigerians to come to their aid in Kano.
