Kaduna Roads: 14 lives Lost in December – FRSC
No fewer that 14 people have lost their lives and 160 injured in accidents involving 53 vehicles from December 1 to date, says Kaduna Sector Command of the Federal Road Safety Corps.
The Sector Commander, Mr Frances Udoma told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Kaduna on Saturday that the 14 people were killed in 11 fatal and 23 serious accidents, involving 332 people.
Udoma however said that the corps have rolled out several operations which began from December 12 to ensure safety of roads throughout the Christmas celebration.
“These operations include operation zero tolerance to accidents, special intervention patrol and traffic frequency monitoring in a bid to make roads accidents free.
“we have deployed radar guns to all flash point areas in the state to check speed violation. We are equally checking overloading and tyre violations.
“We collaborate with other relevant stakeholders like the police, Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps, National Emergency Management Agency and the National Union of Road Transport Workers, “he said.
He equally said that marshals have been deployed to different junctions to ease traffic flow in Kaduna metropolis, adding that officers have also been deployed to all flash point areas to access the impact of the patrol.
He added that the operations were being conducted along with mobile court to prosecute traffic offenders.
He explain that the mobile court was a routine exercise, being part FRSC mandate to prosecute traffic offenders with a view to bringing sanity on Nigerian roads.
The Legal Officer of the command, Ibrahim Tanko said that no fewer than 210 motorists have been convicted via a mobile court from December 7 to date.
He said that 32 motorists were convicted in kachia, 49 in Kaduna – Zaria toll gate, 59 along Kaduna – Abuja Express way, while 70 were convicted at Sabon Tasha, in Kaduna metropolis.
“The motorists were arrested for overloading, driver’s licence violations; vehicle licence violation; tyre violation; number plate violation, and obstruction of marshal on duty among others, “Tanko said.
