Kaduna Power Supply: We are not responsible for drop – KAEDCO

Kaduna Electricity Distribution Company (KAEDCO) has said that the drop in power distribution under its control is as a result of what its receiving from the transmission company.
Responding to questions from Newsmen in Kaduna, the head, corporate communication of the company Abdullahi Abdullaziz explains that KAEDCO is receiving less than 150 mega watts from the transmission company.
“For us to be able to supply the people of Kaduna effectively we need atleast 450 mega watts daily, if we are able to get this from transmission then we will serve the people better. But that is not what we have now, what we have now is less than 150 mega watts and out of that we supply kebbi, Zamfara, Sokoto.”
He stressed that KAEDCO has no authority over what they are supplied as they can only distribute what they get. Saying even Niger Republic is being supplied from that same amount of mega watts they get from the transmission company.
Abdullaziz said although they cannot be isolated from the problem being faced by the power sector but the generating companies are mainly in charge of numbers of mega watts that is transmitted to all distribution companies.
He debunked the rumour that the federal government is still giving subversions to distribution companies, saying “as it is now since the PHCN was unboundled government siezed from giving money to any of the company, they are now privately owned and every owners are now sourcing funds for themselves to pay salaries and other things.”
He however advised consumers to report whatever forms of challenges they face with the use of electricity to the customer unit and that they can forward there complains to Nigeria Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) or Consumer Protection Council (CPC) when they are not satisfied with KAEDCO response.
